Le constructeur automobile a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 une perte stup\u00e9fiante de 1,2 milliard de dollars, pointant directement du doigt le lourd tarif douanier de 25 % impos\u00e9 sur les v\u00e9hicules fabriqu\u00e9s au Mexique entrant sur le march\u00e9 canadien. Cette barri\u00e8re commerciale inattendue, entr\u00e9e en vigueur fin mai, a contraint l&rsquo;entreprise \u00e0 absorber des co\u00fbts importants plut\u00f4t que de les r\u00e9percuter enti\u00e8rement sur les consommateurs dans un march\u00e9 automobile d\u00e9j\u00e0 en ralentissement.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Nous faisons face \u00e0 une pression extraordinaire sur plusieurs fronts,\u00a0\u00bb a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 <b>John Lawler<\/b>, directeur financier de Ford, lors de la pr\u00e9sentation des r\u00e9sultats. \u00ab\u00a0La situation tarifaire au Canada repr\u00e9sente seulement l&rsquo;un des nombreux vents contraires que nous naviguons dans cet environnement commercial mondial de plus en plus complexe.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>La situation met en lumi\u00e8re la vuln\u00e9rabilit\u00e9 des cha\u00eenes d&rsquo;approvisionnement automobiles qui s&rsquo;\u00e9tendent \u00e0 travers l&rsquo;Am\u00e9rique du Nord. Ford, comme de nombreux fabricants, a pass\u00e9 des d\u00e9cennies \u00e0 optimiser son r\u00e9seau de production sous l&rsquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.international.gc.ca\/trade-commerce\/trade-agreements-accords-commerciaux\/agr-acc\/nafta-alena\/index.aspx?lang=fra\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Accord de libre-\u00e9change nord-am\u00e9ricain<\/a> et son successeur, l&rsquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.international.gc.ca\/trade-commerce\/trade-agreements-accords-commerciaux\/agr-acc\/cusma-aceum\/index.aspx?lang=fra\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ACEUM<\/a>. Les usines mexicaines de l&rsquo;entreprise produisent plusieurs mod\u00e8les populaires vendus au Canada, dont le <b>Bronco Sport<\/b> et la camionnette <b>Maverick<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Le gouvernement canadien a mis en \u0153uvre ces tarifs en r\u00e9ponse aux restrictions mexicaines sur certaines importations agricoles. Ce qui a commenc\u00e9 comme un diff\u00e9rend sur les produits laitiers et les pommes de terre s&rsquo;est transform\u00e9 en un conflit commercial automobile \u00e0 part enti\u00e8re, les v\u00e9hicules devenant des dommages collat\u00e9raux dans une partie d&rsquo;\u00e9checs \u00e9conomique plus large.<\/p>\n<p>Les analystes de l&rsquo;industrie estiment que Ford fait face \u00e0 des co\u00fbts suppl\u00e9mentaires de 65 \u00e0 80 millions de dollars par trimestre si la situation tarifaire persiste. \u00ab\u00a0Les constructeurs automobiles fonctionnent d\u00e9j\u00e0 avec des marges relativement minces,\u00a0\u00bb explique <b>Miranda Santos<\/b>, analyste automobile principale chez <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hamiltonresearch.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hamilton Research Group<\/a> \u00e0 Toronto. \u00ab\u00a0Un tarif de 25 % brise fondamentalement le mod\u00e8le \u00e9conomique sur lequel ces entreprises ont b\u00e2ti leurs cha\u00eenes d&rsquo;approvisionnement.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Ford n&rsquo;est pas seul \u00e0 ressentir cette pression. <b>General Motors<\/b> et <b>Stellantis<\/b> ont \u00e9galement exprim\u00e9 leur inqui\u00e9tude quant \u00e0 l&rsquo;impact des tarifs sur leurs op\u00e9rations nord-am\u00e9ricaines. L&rsquo;industrie automobile s&rsquo;appuie traditionnellement sur le mouvement pr\u00e9visible des pi\u00e8ces et des v\u00e9hicules \u00e0 travers les fronti\u00e8res, les composants traversant souvent plusieurs fois avant qu&rsquo;un v\u00e9hicule ne soit achev\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Pour les consommateurs canadiens, la situation cr\u00e9e de l&rsquo;incertitude dans un march\u00e9 d\u00e9j\u00e0 difficile.
